Tuesday Trailers!

Sorry I haven't done one of these in forever. Here's a few to start off the year!

Red Riding - Script was written by Tony Grisoni of Fear and Loathing fame, plus newcomer Andrew Garfield (from Gilliam's Imaginarium) will be starring. Apparently it's 3 films combined to one, each directed by a different person. Interesting concept, and hopefully it works!

Multiple Sarcasms - I have a feeling the movie might be more entertaining than the trailer... Maybe.

The Beautiful Person (La Belle Personne) - Everything just seems better in French.

Babies - Babies have always been of a bizarre interest to me. Not in that "I want to be a mommy" way, but just fascinating as these tiny human beings to which everything is new and who can absorb so much knowledge without even really trying. This looks like a really fantastic documentary.

Waiting for Armageddon - A frightening look at what religious extremists are seriously convinced of and what their hatred approves of.

Fading of the Cries - Because this trailer was ultimately too WTF to pass up...

The Other Side of Paradise - Starring a bunch of random people including a guy that looks like he could be brothers with Christian from Nip/Tuck... looks interesting enough. At the very least for my netflix queue!

A Prophet (Un Prophete) - All I can say is... looks good!

More next week!

Tuesday Trailers

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - They finally have a new trailer for this and it looks absolutely stunning! It also makes everyone very melancholy to think what more this could've done for Heath Ledger. Terry Gilliam remains one of my personal favorites.

Motherhood - Something completely different here from the previous trailer. Uma Thurman is a stay at home mom in Manhattan, a place where stay-at-home anything is probably verbotten. It looks cute and witty and mushy and I can dig it because Uma is a great actress.

That Evening Sun - It's being hailed as a true Southern American Gothic. It's a seriously unique story and the acting looks superb. And hey, isn't that Arlene from True Blood I see? Check this out.

Broken Embraces - Pedro Almodovar finally has a new film! I've only been waiting for... three years for this? As usual, the stunningly gorgeous Penelope Cruz is in it and it's something about the complicated relationships that women have with others and with themselves. Can't wait!

Come back next week for more!

Trailer Tuesday!

Women In Trouble - Like a chick flick but less fluffy.

As Seen Through These Eyes - Holocaust survivor artists tell their story.

Oh My God? - Another documentarian on the search of what is god.

Nobody - A movie for every art student and a movie for every college student. Coming of age, yadda yadda.

The Crazies - The remake of George Romero's pseudo-non-zombie film. I'll have to check it out of course, although I'm not digging the use of Mad World in the trailer, since i've reserved that for Donnie Darko alone.

Antichrist - I could have sworn I wrote about this, but I don't recall the full trailer so here it is. Interesting, indeed!

Trailer Tues-er Wednesday!

Trailer time! A day late...

Nightmare On Elm Street (The Remake) - !!!!! I saw this the other day and thought.. well. Okay. But after watching it a second time, I am seriously, SERIOUSLY excited! I would suggest you watch it a few times before making your mind up about it as well. You'll probably have the time to do it too since it won't be coming out until next year. The new Freddy look and sound are actually more terrifying in my opinion. I also love that they're keeping so many of the same shots as the original, and that they're not casting a bunch of the same annoying celeb kids (no Megan Fox or Shia LeBouf thankyouverymuch.) And while this seems to be Samuel Bayer's first real feature film directing gig, I think he'll do a good job if the trailer is any indication. He has made some of my favorite music videos after all...

The House of the Devil - What looks like a well-made homage to the 1970's classic horror films (The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, and the like), I am really looking forward to checking this out and sincerely hoping it doesn't disappoint. The few special effects they show look spectacular and completely terrifying!

The Box - I reeeeally don't like Cameron Diaz, but this kind of looks interesting. I think it's more of a wait-for-DVD release but I like the concept at least. Very Twilight Zone-esque. Plus its by the same person that directed Donnie Darko, so it's got that going for it. Opinions?

Paranormal Activity - Blair Witch for Ghosts? Could work... I don't like the trailer much to be honest, but the movie could be entertaining. Especially if there's more to it than the few bits shown here...

Afterschool - Not entirely horror, but it definitely look good. A new indie thriller with a bunch of unknowns that might deliver something much better than most of the crap that is sold to us in theaters. Worth a look, for sure.

I'm sure there's more trailers out there to watch right now but... really... after Nightmare, do you really WANT to?

Tuesday Trailers

Sorry for the lack of trailers last week! Here's a new set to tide you over...

Van Diemen's Land - Apparently based on a true story, this one goes either way for me.

The Maid - Interesting tale about someone we might take for granted.

Blind Date - Looks absolutely beautiful.

Up In The Air - Could be something great for Clooney, and something different as well.

This Is It - What can I say? It's still and always will be Michael Jackson.

A Christmas Carol - I have a feeling Zemeckis and Carrey will make me proud.

Tuesday Trailers!

Sorry for the lack of trailers last week, but this should more than make up for it!

Lying - What is this, an indie kid's wet dream? Seriously... with super awesome starlets Chloe Sevigny, Jena Malone, and Leelee Sobiesky (the 2 latter of which I am happy to see finally getting some work again!), this is sure to be on every Stephen Merritt fan's list. And let's face it, my inner tragically hip self is also kinda dying to see this as well.

One Good Man - I don't know how I feel about this. It's a uh.. "feel-good" movie about a Mormon family. Mormonism is a.. very bizarre faith in my opinion. But it almost seems like just a run-of-the-mill feel-good flick. Plus there's holidays involved. Probably wait for the DVD, but still. Interesting.

Pretty Ugly People - Yeah... cause behind every depressed fat girl, there's a bitchy but beautiful skinny girl right? At least that's what I'm getting from this trailer... which is kind of annoying. And the only reason I'm posting it is because Sookie from Gilmore Girls is in it. Guess we'll see...

Price Of Life - Documentary about a Philly ex-con's rehabilitation. Could be good?

Leslie, My Name Is Evil - This is being sold as a comedy, but I have a feeling there might be more to it than that. Maybe. It looks interesting anyway, although if it turns out to just be a comedy, it'll be pretty disappointing.

Brief Interview with Hideous Men - John Krasinski's directorial debut. It might be entertaining? Either way, not one, but TWO Law & Order stars are in it. If they got Mariska Hargitay in there, it would be complete.

Possibly more later. If not, definitely by next week!

Tuesday Trailers!

Alright.... Let's do this!

Adoration - Saw this trailer when I went to see Moon. I really like the different point of view this film is using, which might make it a bit controversial, but in my eyes will just make it much more worth my while.

Amreeka - Love this trailer. About immigrants, about the unique experience of being from Gaza, about cultural miscommunications, about humanity. Dig it. Not to mention it looks like it'll have plenty of funny parts.

Good Hair - Thank you, Chris Rock, for making a (feminist?) film that praises our differences and challenges the bullshit that little girls have to grow up with and grown women have to live with.

Inception - Nolan/Dicaprio's latest. Nice to see DiCaprio doing something with someone other than Scorsese, without lowering his standards. Phenomenal cast including Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine back from their previous Nolan stint on The Dark Knight, as well as Joseph Gordon Levitt, Ellen Page, and Marion Cotillard.

Youth In Revolt - Michael Cera is obviously the voice of a new generation of nerd boys who are tired of getting wedgies and are now actively "going for the girl" and whatnot. Looks alright.

We Live In Public - Interesting documentary about REAL reality tv.

Black Dynamite - 70's blaxploitation films make a come back? Looks like! Gotta raid my boyfriends' Rudy Ray Moore films...

Bronson - I don't know much of the back story to this but it looks interesting.

Book of Blood - Clive Barker has a new film! And it looks like it came straight out of the 80's.

The Undying - Honestly... this just kinda looks good for a few laughs.

Me and Orson Welles - I don't know much about Zac Efron except he's some up and coming pretty boy. But i'll admit I'm intrigued by anything with Orson Welles' name in the title.

Stake Land - I mistook this for some kind of ku klux klan related film at first, until I realized it has to do with vampires. Interesting trailer nonetheless!

Tuesday Trailers!

So many trailers, so little time.... Let's begin!

How I Got Lost - Coming of age type film. We all find out eventually life doesn't turn out the way we were expecting it to... and then you get old and wonder what the hell happened. This trailer makes good use of exploiting all that.

The Burning Plain - A tumult of human emotion! This trailer is a lot different from the one on Apple Trailers (this one actually tells you something about what's going on, for instance!) I'm still kind of confused about this one... but maybe i'll watch the DVD or at least wait for more of the plot to unfold in upcoming trailers.

St. Trinians - I know this movie looks god awful, but Colin Firth is in it (as is Rupert Everett in drag)... and it almost seems like something I would've found entertaining when I was 13, so what the hell.

Untitled. - Adam Goldberg stars as a big time asswad. No, seriously. I'm hoping this is a satire about the art world and the pretentiousness of really shitty ideas and how some of these artists these days are so devoid of talent and yet they make all this money and once they're "in the club" so to speak, they can continue to praise the other talentless hacks around them. If I find out this movie it supposed to be serious, however, I will take it off my blog ASAP.

The Ghost - Roman Polanski is finally making a new movie! And we get to see a whopping 17 seconds of it right here! Ewan Macgregor! Squeal!

This one is made possible by Fangoria...

The Angels' Melancholia - Crazy German horror movie. The music makes this trailer especially awkward. So awkward that I had to post it on here.

My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done - Werner Herzog directed, David Lynch produced. I can't say I've actually seen anything by Herzog, just heard a lot of fuss about him and I know eventually I must watch something of his. This looks like a good place to start. Chloe Sevigny is in it too, so that's a plus!

And last but not least...

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant - I.... have no idea, but it looks like it might be fun? Plus John C. Riley is awesome and who doesn't love Salma in a beard?

Tuesday Trailers!

Starting off with what looks like a fun, summer movie..

Beeswax - About twin sisters who get in to all kinds of shenanigans it seems. Feel good flick, I'm sure.

A much different film...

Sultanes Del Sur - Bank heist turns into laundering scheme turns in to people with guns and people losing money and betrayals and more. In Spanish. Nothing too deep, but looks like a good time.

Moving on...

New York, I Love You - Guilty pleasure. Looks like any other good NY movie. Love stories. People meeting people. The City. What more can you ask for?

From NY we journey across to Atlantic to...

Paris - What looks like another feel-good movie about romance, but a little more bitter like those damned Europeans! Just kidding... But hey, Juliette Binoche is in it so it can't be all that bad, right? Er.. let's hope.

From here, we move on to a green documentary...

Earth Days - About the root of the environmentalism movement. Enlightening and illuminating, but for whom? Hopefully people watch instead of letting this one preach to the choir like so many others.

And another documentary about a photographer and his...

Unlikely Weapon - The story of Eddie Adams and his incredible photographic work for the last 50 years. The man has captured some amazing shots, including taking pictures of 13 different wars in an effort perhaps to show the reality of it all.

And more documentaries! Yay!

Not Quite Hollywood - A docu about "Ozploitation" films... which... I have to say, I didn't even know much about until I saw the trailer. But now I'm definitely intrigued.

And finally...

Still Walking - How else to describe this but that it seems to be a film with a heart. Definitely want to see it.

What movies are you looking forward to?

Tuesday Trailers! (Wednesday Edition!)

Sooo.... life kind of caught up with me and I didn't get around to posting these today. Sorry, everyone! But without further ado... It's Trailer Time!

Play In The Gray - A new documentary about a gender bending performance troupe called All The King's Men (thanks to Feministing for the link!) I'd definitely like to check it out.

I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell - Okay... this movie looks god awful. While I normally pride myself in not posting anything that looks like it sucks on here, I included it for any possible Gilmore fans out there (seeing as the leading man, Matt Czuchry is in it.) All this makes me want to do is cry under the covers until it's all over and then put on my Gilmore Girls Season 5 on (although he was my least favorite of Rory's boyfriends.... but now I'm getting my nerd-talk on and I don't have enough of an audience to alienate the few i've got.)

Julia - So I totally can't put my finger on this trailer. Is it good? Does it suck? I'm at a loss for opinions here. What do you think of it?

45365 - This trailer didn't exactly strike me as something amazing, but I enjoyed the simplicity of it, and of what I imagine the rest of the film must be like. I can dig documentaries about daily life and such.

Fear(s) Of The Dark - This is an old trailer but I don't even know if this ever actually got released in theaters (or if it will eventually), and I recently re-ran in to it, and thought others might appreciate it. Regardless, it looks fantastic.

Bright Star - As always, I'm a sucker for the period piece romance. And Keats! So check this one out... plus they cast a bunch of people i've never heard of which for some reason is something I enjoy thoroughly in a film (so long as they do a good job, of course.)

Nation's Pride - A movie within a movie! I totally fell for it at first when I was this on Apple trailers. I just thought 'Well, holy shit. Someone finally got the balls to make a seriously fucked up movie!' until Tony mentioned to me that he thought it might be an advertising ploy for Inglorious Basterds (which it is.) Even so... entertaining in a tasteless was.

Adam - Apparently this is an older trailer as well but I never caught whiff of it. Looks cute. Aspberger's syndrome must be an unfortunate thing to have to tell people you have. It makes me wonder if i've met people like this cause lord knows i've encountered tons of extremely socially awkward individuals.

A Serious Man - New Coen brothers! Tony has converted me in to a big Coen bros. fan. I first saw Fargo in high school and while I enjoyed it, I wasn't enthralled. Then I moved on to Raising Arizona, The Man Who Wasn't There, Miller's Crossing, The Big Lebowski, and the one that really blew me away - No Country for Old Men. And so, I fell in love with Ethan and Joel and am excited about this latest venture of theirs. Looks very promising!

The Baader Meinhoff Complex - Gael Garcia Bernal playing a German terrorist?! Sounds good to me. I'm not too familiar with this particular time in German history but I think i'll do some research before/after checking out the flick.

What movies are you looking forward to?

Tuesday Trailers!

Only - An indie flick about a romance between two school age children. Definitely seems worth the watch.

Crude - A documentary about the "Amazon Chernobyl" case. Looks sad and fascinating all at once.

Dorian Gray - Very much digging this teaser trailer! Plus, kudos to Colin Firth! Methinks I should read the book first though... Hrm.

Tron Legacy - Holy shit - this is just a teaser but it looks really, really good. I gotta re-watch the original since I haven't seen it since I was a kid. But damn, excellent graphics.

Extract - Check out the new Mike Judge flick! Doesn't look quite as amazing as Idiocracy was, but hopefully it still delivers.

My One and Only - Guilty pleasure time! Starring one of my personal faves, Rene Zellwegger (wish it was another Bridget Jones instead, though!)

I Love You Phillip Morris - It's been a while since Jim Carrey made anything I wanted to go to the theater to watch. He's always been a phenomenal actor (comedy or otherwise), but I think this new movie is really going to show the kind of chameleon quality he has to fit in to any role. Totally psyched to see this! Ewan McGregor also stars and looks to be in equally wonderful form!

I was going to add a few more but... after watching the Jim Carrey trailer, I don't think I'll find much more to be excited about. Til' next week!

Tuesday Trailers (or Movies That Hopefully Won't Suck)!

I think from now on, the sub-heading of these posts will be "Movies The Hopefully Won't Suck." Because in the year of "Land of the Lost" and "He's Just Not That In To You," we seriously want to hope that there might just be something more out there. Anyway, without further ado... Here's a few trailers to get you in the movie-watchin' mood:

Taxidermia - Looks completely bizarre and beautiful and kind of gross all at the same time. I don't really know what to say about it except - go watch! Two thumbs up for the trailer!

White On Rice - The trailer is too funny for words. Love films about culture clashes as well as not-so run-of-the-mill coming-of-age stories (let's add more hyphens, shall-we?) My only hope is that they don't go too cliche with the love story trifecta.

The Queen and I - Documentary about Iran's former queen and the state of Iran 30some years ago versus today. Has much really changed?

The Vanished Empire - There isn't much to this trailer, but it's got a good vibe. Classic set-up. Boy meets girl. Boy meets girl #2. Hilarity and hormones ensue. But in a much more stoic, European fashion.

Carriers - Alright, I can't vouch for whether this will be good or bad. Casting seems decent. Plot seems... generic but still decent. Didn't get enough of a look at what exactly happens to "the infected." Is this a zombie movie? Or are people just very sick and then die? Do they run after you? Do they want your brains? What's the deal? Maybe i'll get my answers once I watch it.

Whip It - I'm trying to stop hating on Ellen Page. She's not a bad actress. In fact, she's a pretty good one. After watching Juno (and not being as eternally impressed as most of my friends), I had to watch her in Hard Candy which was a completely different kind of movie (and in my opinion, a better one.) Still, the bad-taste in my mouth from Juno has made me kind of iffy about watching anything that might remind me of it, including anything by Diablo Cody or starring Page. However, this actually looks pretty cute. Hollywood wild child Drew Barrymore has had her ups and downs as an actress, but this is her first time directing so I gotta see if she's got it in her. I might watch this with a few friends, or wait for the dvd, but either way I'm sure it'll deliver, and hopefully it'll include some surprises.

An Education - Pseudo-guilty pleasure type film. Young girl on the brink of adulthood meets a handsome man and gets swept off her feet. And then the problems start, or so they seem to insinuate. Can't get enough of british accents, and while i've never been a big fan of Peter Sarsgaard, I can totally fall in love with him with that accent. The lovely, gifted Emma Thompson, the talented Alfred Molina, and the underrated never-endingly beautiful Olivia Williams also star in this. I just can't say no.

And finally...

July Moon - I keep hearing about how the NASA moon landing tapes were lost. This film tells us that they've been found. But have they? It seems odd that the news wouldn't be all over this if it were true, but perhaps it's being kept under wraps until the movie is released. Either way, kind of excited about this, especially during such a significant anniversary.

Tuesday Trailers! - The VERY Late Edition

Alright, perhaps it's more like Wednesday morning trailers... But, it was for a good cause! I was busy celebrating Bastille Day yesterday and got caught up in all kinds of crazy, including making a crustless quiche from scratch (which i'll post a recipe for later - it was fabulous and i'll be having leftovers for breakfast this morning!), enjoying some chevre/roasted pepper/sundried tomato sandwiches Tony made, listening for all kind of beautiful french music, and ending the day watching a french film (L'Enfant - which i'll be posting a review about soon enough) while enjoying an evening glass of french wine (or two) with some poppy thyme crackers are more of that lovely french goat cheese. Yes, see? It was worth it. I swear.

Anyway, without further ado... here's some trailers for some upcoming films!

Brothers

The start of this trailer reminds me of a cross between the second half of Pearl Harbor and that movie with Jennifer Garner that Kevin Smith was in. But then I guess it takes an ugly turn. I am kind of happy that they're making a movie addressing some of the issues that veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq are probably facing right now, but at the same time... I don't like the way they're going about it. Might wait for the dvd on this.

The Way We Get By

This looks like an incredibly moving documentary about some truly unsung heroes (including many past war veterans), those who make sure that our soldiers returning from Iraq/Aghanistan get a good welcome home. Definitely seems worth the watch.

The Hurt Locker

Continuing in the vein of war-related films, this movie seems like another Hollywood attempt to address the current war in Iraq, via the eyes of a soldier whose specialty is disarming bombs. It looks alright, though not my kind of movie. I'm honestly hoping there's more of a plot to this buried underneath the trailer and that it isn't just about big explosions and escaping big explosions.

Coco Before Chanel

Basically, the story of Coco Chanel before she became uber-famous. Coco is played by Audrey Tautou, so if you're a fan like myself, then you'll probably want to check this out. The other plus is that it's in french, as it should be since Coco Chanel was french and i'll be honest, I hate the americanization of biographical movies based upon people of other nationalities. Makes no sense. Looks pretty good.

Flame & Citron

Who isn't eternally fascinated with WWII/Nazi Era films? This one is about 2 highly regarded resistance fighters, and from what I can see, it looks like it won't disappoint. Action, love, betrayal, war, and all kinds of complicated circumstance.

No Impact Man

This movie looks amazing. I can totally respect what this guy is doing and honestly the trailer alone is inspiring. I can tell that I'm not going to like the wife very much, being the baby who can't give up anything, even small things like giving up coffee or meat or makeup. I do indulge in things now and again, but not so much that if I had a good support system (eg. her husband) I know i'd be able to do it. We could all learn a few things from this man. Definitely checking this out.

District 9

Transformers meets aliens? The premise of the film seems really great, but yeah. I'm not completely digging the special effects being too similar to Transformers (and actually, you can see a little Terminator:Salvation influence as well.) I wish people would start being more original in their filmmaking. But i'll probably check it out anyway since I'm a big alien film nerd.

The Cove

This looks like an incredible documentary about the plight of the dolphin in captivity, and not only that, but the problem with hunting and killing dolphins for meat. If you've ever watched Sea Shepherd, you'll probably dig this. And even if you haven't, this looks to be incredibly eye-opening. I need to see this!

Outrage

The documentaries just keep on coming! This seems to be another promising one as well, about those oh-so-lovely (mostly Republican) government officials who like bashing the gay community and voting against things like HIV test funding, but who go and have secret homosexual affairs later on. I'm excited to see how they'll be outing the assholes in Congress that just can't be honest with themselves. God, I hate hypocrisy.

And finally, the one we've all been impatiently awaiting ever since we heard our favorite childhood story was coming to the big screen...

Where The Wild Things Are

Too completely psyched for this!!

More trailers next week!
