Kindergarten Sex Ed.
Personally, this seems like a fantastic idea. Kids need to grow up not thinking their bodies are something to be ashamed of and they also need to understand when they are being approached in a way that is uncomfortable to them. The States and elsewhere need to get hip to this.

Thursday Morning News Brief.
Haven't really been keeping up with much of the news as of late. It's my fault, I know. I need to keep being a well-informed citizen. I think the holidays kind of zapped me out of wanting to know about reality to completely wanting to AVOID reality. However, I know I don't live in a bubble and so... here's some random news you might have missed:
Focus On The Family is putting up a pro-life ad during the Super Bowl starring Gators Golden Boy Tim Tebow. Completely lame, yes?
Good job, NBC! Conan O'Brien got fucked again! Jay Leno will be going back to his original spot because he's an ass hate and Conan won't be on TV for 8 goddamn months. Granted, they're both going to be enjoying their millions regardless and it really doesn't affect me personally. But shit, I really was with Team CoCo...
Too fucking cool. Kathleen Hanna's papers will be placed in NYU's Riot Grrrl collection at the Fales Library. First off... they have a RIOT GRRRL COLLECTION IN THEIR LIBRARY!? Just... wow. Impressed and it just makes me want to go to NYU for grad school now, hah.
In case you're not familiar with Kathleen Hanna...
A short quip on the Ethics of Looting over at NPR.
And finally... An incredible victory just happened in South Miami wherein the (usually not so fabulous) commissioners have granted benefits to domestic partners in the area! This is seriously amazing and going completely under the radar. Could this be what Miami needs to get the ball rolling?? Maybe I should finally switch my permanent address (I'm on the cusp between Pinecrest and South Miami so I'd need to find out whether it would count...) Seriously GOOD news, though!

Monday's Minutes.
- An update in the Elgin Marbles debate! Greece has created an amazing looking museum to convince the British Museum to finally give back the marbles so Greece can display them in their entirety. They said they didn't think Greece could preserve them as well before, but I think they just might have to eat their words now...
- Slate.com addresses something that I never thought about in regards to the HPV Vaccine. I took my Gardasil shot because my doc seemed to think it was a good idea. But reading this, I'm a little pissed to realize it's just another way that women have to do everything and have everything done to them while men get to sit back and reap the benefits. What a crock.
-Wherein I'm a complete douche and totally missed the annual Kite Festival for the millionth year in a row. But you can read more about it here since other people did remember.
- I don't have time to analyze this week's episode of Mad Men (something i've been meaning to blog about for a while and hopefully will get a chance to soon), but this gal does a good job for me anyway.
- And finally, IXCHEN, an NGO in my pseudo-motherland of Nicaragua needs YOUR help! Feministing.org was nice enough to post about the recent fire that destroyed this center that provides help (ie. health services) for women and children. The organization needs your help to keep going. I'm definitely going to look in to how else I can help. Here's their blog if you want to know more.

Sad to think my tax dollars will probably be supporting her ignorant ass soon.

5 Thursday News Headlines You Might've Missed!
- The oldest potted plant in the world is being given a new home! This 240 year old cycad was discovered in the 1770s and resides in South West London. It is being replanted in to a new pot. This is news only a geek could love.
- Nature photographer Mark Moffett has a new exhibit at the Smithsonian depicting the intricate and complex lives of ants. Makes you think twice about stepping on an ant when you see it. Video report below:
- Infamous TV show host Jerry Springer has been doing a stint at Billy Flynn in the West End Live musical production of 'Chicago.' I've never seen the musical myself, or the film for that matter, but anyway, here's a clip:
- NPR has a nice little pictorial on the evolution of swim wear in the Olympics (a topic I was discussing with someone earlier this week when I heard about Michael Phelps' recent loss and how his swim wear from last year won't be allowed at the next Olympics.) I personally like Corinne Condon's outfit - i'd kill for an old school women's bathing suit!
- And finally... a woman has fallen in love with a rollercoaster. Not only that, but she plans to marry the coaster, whose name is 1001 Nachts who resides at Knoebels Amusement Park. Yes, folks. People are allowed to marry inanimate objects, but not humans of their same gender. That's the kind of country we live in.

Monday News Round-Up
Just a few of today's headlines you might have missed!
One of the last surviving Nazi's of World War II has been found and will soon be facing trial. No sympathy for this bastard who's been allowed to live to the old age of 89 in peace while others had to die.
Favored director David Lynch has a new photography exhibit based on the music of Danger Mouse up at the Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles.
Free health screenings are going to be offered here in Miami tomorrow from 10am to 4pm, including HIV and STD testing! Call Commissioner Joe Martinez's office at (305) 552-1155 for more info.
In Super Hero film news, Natalie Portman's been tapped to star in Thor (along with Chris Hemsworth... which I am having a hard time picturing as Thor unless he bulks up, honestly), while Ryan Reynolds is now working on becoming the Green Lantern (which I guess can work as long as he keeps the goofy to a minimum.) I have some high hopes for Thor though since my man, the Shakespeare-loving Kenneth Branagh is directing (who'da thought?!)
Apparently JoBlo.com is telling me that Al Pacino is going to be playing Dr. Kevorkian in the upcoming biopic You Don't Know Jack (along with Susan Sarandon and John Goodman.) How... very random. Hope he keeps the shouting to a minimum this time.
According to the BBC, cat's really ARE manipulating humans! Always knew those little bastards had us enslaved (not that I don't love them any less...)
Tara Stiles gives us the low-down on her fridge and why cooking your own food is best!
