A Song for 3am.
Regretting missing their show the other week. I always find out about things too late. But so it goes.

Monday Mornings.
Alright, so maybe I haven't been as active as I promised on here.... but I'm trying! Between semester, freelancing, the radio station, and the new job... and maintaining a relationship and trying to not let my apartment go to hell, it's a little hard.
Anyway, here's a few tunes to get your morning going!
Also, blogging ladies should consider taking part in the Our Bodies, Ourselves online conversation that will be used to update the book! Very rad, indeed.

Girls With Guitars - Next Week!

I've never been to the Van Dyke Cafe before, but i've been hearing about it since I was a teenager without a fake ID planning out what i'd do in Miami once I finally turned 21. And yes, I turned 21. And 22. 23. Etc, etc. and never actually bothered to go. In fact, the only jazz night i've ever been to is the Monday Night Jazz Jam at Churchills (which tends to get overshadowed by Open Mic Night outside anyway.) However, this flyer caught my attention. I love female vocalists and I love acoustic guitars. Girls WITH guitars - oh yeah. That's at the top of my music list. Seems like an awesome opportunity to listen to some new music and find out about some local talent.
Do yourself a favor and go to the Van Dyke Cafe next Tuesday! And check out the website, their menu looks absolutely delicious (albeit perhaps a bit pricey...)

I don't wanna, I don't think so.
There are no words to describe what the hell Sonic Youth's sound is really like. There are scratches and squeals and melodies and ethereal moments and some humming and buzzing and clicking and growling and it's all blended together in a train wreck of beautiful noise. It makes no sense and they make no sense. I've been following their music for a while now, although I must say i've been a pretty lousy music lover for the last 5 or 6 years, not really putting my ear to the wall to find out what's been going on with all my favorite and not so beloved bands. Either way, I'm trying not and I just saw the video for "Sacred Trickster", Sonic Youth's first single off their new LP The Eternal. And i'll be honest, the last album of Sonic Youth's that I bought was NYC Ghosts and Flowers about 9 years ago (I was still in high school for christ's sake.) And while I dug it at the time, it didn't speak to me the way Daydream Nation or Dirty or Sister did. However, I think I might try to go back in time and catch up on all the Sonic Youth i've missed this last near-decade to see what tracks can haunt me the way Teenage Riot always will.
For now, enjoy the new single and let me know what you think!

Moby - 'Wait For Me'

Track 4 now... Still good. I think I fell in love with Moby via The X-Files (they used a few of his songs on some of the most powerful scenes of the entire series.) Fell in love more when I found out he was a vegan. Compassionate genius! If only I could have even an ounce of his talent.
"it seems as if too often an artists or musicians or writers creative output is judged by how well it accommodates the marketplace, and how much market share it commands and how much money it generates.
in making this record i wanted to focus on making something that i loved, without really being concerned about how it might be received by the marketplace. as a result it's a quieter and more melodic and more mournful and more personal record than some of the records i've made in the past."
Track 6 now... It shows, sir. (The vocals are almost Peter Murphy-esque?)
Also cool is that David Lynch directed a video for his first single off the album. You can check it out @ Pitchfork's website here.
I don't even know what track I'm on anymore... but you should definitely give it a listen in its' entirety and let me know what you think!
Off to enjoy the rest of it...
